Here at Birch Sisters, we want our customers to feel confident about the products they purchase. In a market as flooded as skincare, it can be hard to know who to trust or what to look for. That’s why we believe in full disclosure. So what sets Birch Sisters apart?
Look, we all want to do what we can to take care of our skin and keep it healthy. So, we scour the internet and find that perfect product for our skin type or skin condition, the one that promises miracles… and then we see the price. Well, it was a nice thought, right? We’ve been there. That’s why we want to offer our customers a great product AND a great price. How do we do that, you ask?
It all starts with the ingredients. We do extensive research on all our suppliers. We make sure their products are top of the line, and, whenever possible, we choose ingredients that are organic, unrefined, and from suppliers who engage in sustainable practices. For example, palm oil is a very popular ingredient used in many skincare products due to its benefits as well as its low price tag. But that popularity comes with a cost. The incredibly high demand has led to deforestation of the rainforest and devastated its wildlife habitats. Because of this, we look for companies who sell sustainably sourced palm oil. We have run across this issue even when sourcing our caprylic/capric triglycerides (sometimes inaccurately called fractionated coconut oil) which we found is sometimes derived from palm and not coconut.
Next comes the formulations we create. Each product we make starts with an objective and, again, a lot of research. We look for the best possible ingredients to ensure each product will do what it is intended to do. But unlike many formulators, we don’t use fillers. That means that every single ingredient serves a purpose and has a benefit.
Then, we test. We have real people try our products to see how they work and give us feedback. We also lab test to ensure our preservatives are working. Since we only use naturally derived preservatives (when preservatives are necessary) we want to make sure that they are doing their job. Did you know skincare companies aren’t even required to do testing?! It is not regulated, so unless they tell you they test, you’ll never know.
Finally, we make the product in small batches (with lots of love!) to ensure quality. We do all of this so each of our customers can feel good inside and out using our products. We are always open to questions on both our products and our practices, so reach out!
